ISCIII’05

The second edition of the International Symposium on Computational

Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics (ISCIII’05) took

place during the 14th, 15th and 16th of October at Gammarth.

ISCIII’05 was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher

Education and the University of Tunis El-Manar

The Japan Society for Fuzzy Theory and Intelligent Informatics

(SOFT) along with the International Fuzzy Systems Association

(IFSA) were the scientific sponsors of this international scientific

event.

The Unité de Recherche Signaux et Systèmes (U2S), the Association

Scientifique de l’ENIT (ASENIT) and the Hungarian Fuzzy Association

(HFA) were the technical cosponsors. The above scientific organizations

contributed to the success of ISCIII’05 in cooperation with he

Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT) and the Ecole Nationale

d’Ingénieurs de Tunis (ENIT).

About sixty paper submissions were received from 10 countries

(Tunisia, Japan, France, Hungary, India, China, Oman, Serbia, Romania,

and Iran). After a comprehensive review process only high quality

papers were accepted (about 70% of the total submissions). The

retained papers were split in two categories, i.e.; regular papers (85%)

and posters (15%). The regular papers presentations were enriched by

two exceptional plenary talks. The first titled “Information Aggregation:

Non-conventional Approaches” by IEEE Fellow and Rector Prof.

I. J.Rudas, from the Institute of Intelligent Engineering Systems, the

John von Neumann Faculty of Informatics, Budapest Tech. University.

The second titled “Computational Intelligence for Social Learning of A

Partner Robot“ by Prof. N. Kubota, from the Department of System

Design,Tokyo Metropolitan University.

To enhance the symposium activities and outcomes, and to expose our

students, and thus future researchers, to top scientific research as well

as giving them the chance to meet world renowned researchers in the

dynamic field of Computational Intelligence, the newly born ENITIEEE

Student Branch took an active role in the organization as well as

all activities of the scientific gathering. Besides the six IEEE student

members whom took part as full participants and able organizers, about

30 more ENIT students were present during the symposium events.

These valuable participations were made possible by ENIT.

One of the traditions of ISCIII is to recognize and thus encourage excellence.

Indeed, several recognition awards are usually bestowed on

achievers during the ISCIII’s banquet ceremony. During this edition

the Best Student Presentation Certificate was awarded to Mr. Hassen

Taleb from ISG. Similarly, the Best Poster Certificate was presented to

Mr. B. Chouchen from ENIT.

Last but not least, the senior researchers present at ISCIII’05 decided to

form a steering committee that will make of ISCIII a true biannual

international conference. The steering committee members are as

follows: Profs. I. J. Rudas, K. Hirota, L. T. Koczy, N. Kubota and J.

Ezzine. In addition, the steering committee decided that the next

editions, ISCIII’07, will be held in Morocco, and ISCIII’09 in Malta.

français « Antennas and Propagation Society » et « MTT and

Electron Devices Society » de l’IEEE (Institute of Electrical and

Electronics Engineers).
