The United Nations in the Heart of Europe | News & Media | UNITED NATIONS EXPERT URGES TUNISIA TO PLACE HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION AT THE HEART OF ITS REFORMS: TUNIS/GENEVA – The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to education, Kishore Singh, today urged* the Tunisian Government to keep the country’s rendezvous with history by placing human rights and the right to education at the heart of the historic reforms taking place in Tunisia.

“Tunisia is at a turning point in its history,” Mr. Singh stressed at the end of his first fact-finding mission to the country. “If it fails to secure in its new Constitution and its new laws the highest standards of protection of human rights, particularly the right to education, Tunisia will miss a historic opportunity.”

“It is now for the Government to preserve the gains and arm themselves to face the challenges of the future,” he added.
