allAfrica.com: Tunisia: Sfax Hosts 2009 Olivebioteq Event (Page 1 of 1): "Tunis — Organized at the initiative of the Institute of olives in collaboration with several national and international organizations, Sfax hosted on Tuesday, the 3d edition of the Mediterranean scientific event dubbed '2009 Olivebioteq' on the theme 'for a renovated, profitable and competitive Mediterranean olive sector.'

Experts and researchers from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Malta, Italy, Greece, France, Spain, Germany and the United States are taking part in the event.

The Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Mr. Abdessalem Mansour reviewed different programs and mechanisms set up to strengthen agricultural scientific research as well as the role of the olive oil sector in achieving food security, boost exports, create jobs and preserve natural resources.

Mr. Mansour stressed the need to exert further efforts so as to enhance Tunisian bottled olive oil which represent only 2% of overall exports. He also evoked the presidential decision to set up a fund for the promotion of packaged olive oil to raise this rate up to 10%."
