allAfrica.com: Tunisia: 'Geotunis2009' - Fighting Desertification (Page 1 of 1): "Tunis — Concomitantly with the Copenhagen Summit on climate change, the Tunisian Association of Digital Geographic Information (ATIGN) is organizing from December 16 to 20, 2009, the Fourth edition of the international congress 'Geo Tunisia 2009' which is held at the Tunis International Center for Environmental Technologies.

The conference deals with the fight against desertification through geographic information systems and new digital designing.

In his opening address, Mr. Abdessalem Mansour, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources said that Tunisia's goal is to preserve natural resources by fighting against desertification, consolidating cooperation relations and establishing relations of partnership and solidarity between nations.

He also stressed Tunisia's implementation of a 3-billion-dinar project aiming at reinforcing monitoring systems and exchanging data on climate, in association with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and Japan."
